Day 1: Arrive Auckland

Your flight into Auckland lands you in one of the most beautiful cities in the southern hemisphere. Your group will be met by your group coordinator and you’ll be transferred by private coach directly into the city. Depending on your arrival time, local touring of Auckland can be included today. Superb vistas and attractions are numerous, from the breathtaking harbour views from MJ Savage Memorial Park, to the charm of Parnell Rose Garden and grandeur of the Auckland Museum. We’ll make the short 20 minute hike up beautiful Mount Eden for one of the best 360 degree views in the city. In the evening, we head up Sky Tower to enjoy superb views over the city of Auckland and our first evening together in New Zealand.

Day 2: Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is a short, scenic ferry ride from central Auckland. A true world away from the bustle of the city, Waiheke Island is a paradise of lush rolling hills, beautiful beaches and renowned wineries. On disembarking the ferry, we set out on an awesome daytrip of the island, with the focus on enjoying the island’s superb scenery and enjoying tastings at wineries across the island – with the opportunity for beer tasting at a local brewery as well. Depending on group preferences, various optional activities can be bundled into today’s experience, including Clay Shooting and Wildtag. A visit to Connells Bay Sculpture Park can also be included on request.

Day 3: Auckland to Rotorua

We board our coach and head for the thermal wonderland of Rotorua. Groups can optionally include a visit to Hobbiton on the way – an epic experience for Lord of the Rings fans.

We enjoy lunch in Matamata, and in the afternoon make our way into the depths of an ancient native forest to enjoy a professionally guided experience through the forest canopy. Following a full safety briefing, we’ll enjoy a series of ziplines, swingbridges and treetop platforms that pair a breathtaking scenic experience with a series of thrills that are accessbile to everyone! We return to town in the evening and enjoy dinner. A Maori cultural experience with traditional Hangi dinner can be included on request. Group members can optionally head to a local spa in the evening to soak in the naturally heated thermal waters.

Day 4: Rotorua to Tongariro

We set out from Rotorua to explore the bubbling wonderland of hot pools and boiling mud baths at Waimangu Thermal Valley, before continuing to the thunderous Huka Falls, just north of Taupo, where every second an extraordinary 200,000 litres of water crashes through a narrow rocky gap. In Taupo, we board a vessel for a delightful private chartered cruise upon the deep blue waters of the largest lake in New Zealand, including premium lunch and a visit to the Maori Rock Carvings, the largest of their kind the world and an unmissable attraction! Onboard, guests will have the opportunity to try their hand at fishing for trout. On completion of the cruise we continue to the volcanoes of Tongariro, including the classically conical Mt Ngauruhoe, used as Mt Doom in Lord of the Rings. We have the opportunity for a short alpine hike before evening and dinner.

Day 5: Whanganui River Daytrip

An incredible day is lined up for us in the dense rainforest of Whanganui National Park, where we enjoy an unforgettable jetboating and canoeing experience on the Whanganui River. Following breakfast, we climb aboard our coach for the short drive to Pipiriki, at the river’s edge. We board jetboats and make up way upriver through deep canyons cloaked in ferns and moss, with towering trees soaring above. A journey of 32km upriver leads us to a relaxed, 40 minute walk to the ‘Bridge to Nowhere,’ an iconic piece of river history where we’ll discover stories from early European settlers and local Maori legends that have shaped the area. We enjoy a tasty picnic lunch, then return downriver firstly by jetboat, and subsequently on canoes which we paddle downriver for a stretch of about two hours, allowing us to experience the tranquil beauty of the river at a more relaxed pace. In the afternoon, we visit Ohakune, where guests may choose to keep things relaxed with afternoon drinks below the Ruapehu volcano, or join an afternoon walk to the impressive Mangawhero Falls. Group members looking for more thrills may alternatively choose to take a shuttle on the road up to Turoa, returning by mountain bike on a beautiful thousand metre vertical descent. The route is on a sealed road, and completely safe for anyone comfortable riding a bicycle.

Day 6: Tongariro to Auckland

We descend from the alpine heights of Tongariro to ‘King Country’ and the rolling green hills and valleys of the Waikato. Arriving at Waitomo Caves, we enjoy lunch, then embark on a unique exploration of the area’s incredible underground features. Under the guidance of knowledgable local experts, we set out on a private two-cave tour including both a walk through cave, as well as a boat ride, enabling an exceptional experience of the caves spellbinding glowworm display, and their unique world of water-shaped features. Our caving experience is suitable for people of all fitness levels. After completing our Waitomo caving experience, we make our way north, returning to Auckland for dinner.

Day 7: Waitemata Harbour

Sailing Alternative For Larger Groups

The America’s Cup Sailing experience is available to groups of up to 50 people. For larger groups, a luxury cruise will be arranged in its place.

In the morning, we make our way west of Auckland to explore the Waitakere ranges and the superb beach and gannet colony at Muriwai. Here, 1,200 pairs of gannets nest from August to March each year. The scenery is unbeatable, and the black sand beaches are a unique contrast to what we’ve experienced in Waiheke. Following lunch, a real treat for our final full day in New Zealand! New Zealand is among the world’s greatest sailing nations, and Auckland has played host city to the America’s Cup – the worlds’ oldest active sports trophy and most prestigious sailing regatta. We make our way to Auckland harbour and board International America’s Cup Class yachts for an incredible afternoon’s sailing experience. Auckland’s harbour is simply beyond stunning, and it is no surprise that the city is home to more yachts per capita than any other city on Earth. Guests are encouraged to participate, learning the ropes and actively engaging as we venture beyond the so-called ‘City of Sails.’ Participation is of course not required, and guests prefering to absorb the stunning harbour scenery are welcome to sit back and do so. In the evening, we make our way to Viaduct Harbour for a delicious farewell dinner.

Day 8: Depart Auckland

Your group will be transferred to Auckland airport by coach in time for your flight. In cases where flights are booked that depart later in the day, you may opt to enjoy a free morning, allowing guests the opportunity to shop or partake in some of the fun activities available in Auckland. A pre-flight winery visit at a vineyard located not far from the airport is a popular option.

Optional Tour Extensions

By default, this tour is 8 days in length. It can be done in reverse, or customised however you wish. Here are some ideas:

  • An additional day can be added to include a trip by boat to White Island, which offers remarkable volcanic scenery.  This trip can also be done by helicopter, meaning no extra day is required, but cost is higher.)
  • Tour can be modified to include 3-5 days canoeing down the Whanganui River.  This is an exceptional wilderness experience that has the potential for remarkable bonding experience for corporate teams.  However, the experience does involve multiple nights camping (though we make it as pampered as possible!) so may not suit all groups.
